Women's Soccer @ Olympics 2008

No doubt at all, am I happy that the USA won 1-0 to Japan. Indeed, only a well strike beautiful goal by Carli Lloyd put the 2 teams apart. The beginning of the match they were nervous and had some bad passing and clashing but afterwhich, they got calm and composed and played some beautiful game. Hope Solo made some brilliant saves, defenders such as Heather Mitts and Stephanie Cox got some shots on target, Boxxy contributed 2 shots on target which was really well struck. The one player that was running alot was Heather O'reilly on the right flank. She came back even to defend when Japan was attacking, well done. Indeed a game so well fought between both sides and yes, the better team won. A quick 0-2 lost to Norway in the 1st match made them stronger and they had to win this game against Japan if not no go to the quarters.

I had my bet on Sweden that they will definitely have to win Argentina and when I flipped to that channel, indeed they won it 1-0 this evening. Brazil would definitely win North Korea for sure(in which they have won 2-1), with the capability of their players such as Christane and Marta. Little did I know that North Korea would put a goal back in the last minute.

Canada only managed to salvage a 1-1 with China, given their first ever qualification to the Olympics. That's not bad for a start given how strong china is, despite the fact that they didn't have their female Wayne Rooney, Ma Xiaoxu. Sinclair scored for Canada and I'm happy that Kara Lang scored the goal-winner against Argentina in the previous game.

With Norway currently atop of Group G with their 1-0 (also) win against New Zealand, the USA have to fight hard yet again and try to give themselves another 3 points, which I am sure that they will be able to it, given the team spirit and the belief of Pia Sundhage in the team.

Go Team USA, your in my heart.
